Wyeth - Effexor: evergreening aint easy

Watch/listen to this Bloomberg TV clip.

Sounds like investors were underwhelmed with the evergreening plans for Effexor (venlafaxine), using desvenlafaxine (DVS) aka Pristiq.

Also, remember this.

Hmmm...wasn't there a certain drug that was similarly a des-isomer of a certain Wyeth diet drug that, much to their amazement (nod-nod-wink-wink-grin-grin) turned out to have some problems relating to pulmonary hypertension among other things such as death? For some reason, the name Redux keeps popping up. Sorry, but the structural chemists and product development people at Wyeth don't generate much confidence.
